What is it?

What Is Pediatric Speech and Language Therapy?

Pediatric speech therapy is a specialized therapy that involves the assessment and treatment of speech, language, and communication, as well as feeding challenges (e.g., issues with swallowing).

The goal of speech and language therapy is to help children communicate effectively, which includes a focus on use of voice, articulation, speaking fluently, and using expressive language. Speech language therapy allows your child to improve both their verbal and nonverbal skills. And our speech language therapists (SLPs) work with children of all ages, from newborns to teenagers.

What We Do

Angels of Care’s Speech Language Therapists (SLPs) and their assistants are experienced in assessing and treating infants, children, and young adults with communication and feeding/swallowing issues. Treatments used by SLPs tend to be playful and relaxed for the children who receive this type of therapy.

Speech language pathologists help children with variety of challenges, including difficulty:

  • Speaking fluently (e.g., stuttering)

  • Articulating sounds

  • Feeding and swallowing (e.g., ability to eat and drink age-appropriate food and drinks safely)

  • Understanding questions and directions (e.g., ability to grasp words spoken to them and respond accordingly)

  • Communicate their needs using age-appropriate words, phrases, and sentences

  • Understanding information such as directions or questions – the child needs help understanding words spoken to them

  • Organizing information and using it to regulate behavior
