Who We Are

Who We Are
A Nurse Owned and Operated Pediatric Nursing & Home Health Care Agency
Angels of Care is a nurse-owned and -operated agency that was founded in 2000 by Bonnie West. Bonnie had a vision of how pediatric nursing & respite care nursing should be after years of working with medically fragile children as a pediatric home health nurse. Bonnie cared for several children in the North Texas area as a home health nurse and recognized a growing need for support for families with children that are medically fragile.
After seeing the growing need for specialized pediatric home health care and skilled nursing, Bonnie took her passion even further and opened Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health. She wanted her patients and staff to feel like part of a family and to ensure that each child received the same care she would have provided as a nurse. By welcoming medically fragile children into her own home and treating them like family, Bonnie instilled her passion and dedication for these children into her own family members.
Now, her daughters Jessica Riggs, RN and Kristen Robison, RN live their mother’s legacy as AOC’s CEO and VP of Governmental Affairs, respectively. Growing up watching their mother lovingly care for her patients like she would her own family, they inevitably chose careers in nursing to follow in her footsteps. Before stepping into their current leadership positions, both Jessica and Kristin worked as nurses and in various other capacities within AOC.
Bonnie gained her heavenly wings in November 2020, following a long battle with breast cancer, but her legacy lives on through her daughters, the Angels of Care team, and the thousands of children we’ve served. As the agency has grown, Jessica and Kristen have ensured the familial AOC culture that Bonnie carefully crafted reaches across the states we serve to touch every one of our client families, as well as our 5,000+ employees. By following in her footsteps and becoming pediatric nurses themselves, her daughters ensure Angels of Care stays true to its mission: To provide high-quality home health care in a loving, caring and professional manner.

How We Do It
Treat Everyone Like Family
Bonnie West started and built this agency on the foundation of putting families first and treating everyone – both the children she cared for and her employees – like family. Throughout our history, this dedication to family has never wavered.
Our “family tradition” is baked into the culture and operations at Angels of Care. That is, our family approach is more than just a value or philosophy. It’s something we act on every day. From allowing our families and caregivers to interview one another to establish a “match made in heaven” between families and their home healthcare Angels to our staff and family events, we walk the talk of our family approach. Here are some of the highlights of who we are when it comes to treating everyone like family.

Advocacy and Community Outreach
Employees of Angels of Care are dedicated to advocating for our families at the local, state, and federal level. Team members at all levels of our organization help advocate for the best care for the medically fragile children community, and several of our executives participate in high-level advocacy groups that work with state and federal legislators.
Events for Children and Their Families
Throughout the year, Angels of Care hosts community events that get our children and their families actively engaged. For example, in October, we host pumpkin carving contests where families and employees participate. Our December ugly Christmas sweater contests are also highly popular with both our employees and our kids. (The kids love showing off for their nurses!)
Quarterly Staff Events
Most of our team members work in a family’s home. That is, we work together as a team, but our workdays don’t put us together in the same place. In order to foster our “everyone’s family” work culture, we host quarterly lunches in our offices and dinners and happy hours at local restaurants. We go out of our way to help our employees come together, get to know one another, and have a great time while doing it.
HALOS Ambassadors
In addition to randomly sending individual employees funny quotes and memes she knows they’ll like, Jessica Riggs always ensured that her staff had everything they needed to perform their jobs well – even if that meant helping them outside of their work environment and duties. She established a small fund from which Angels of Care could help employees when they needed it. If someone was suffering from the flu, Jessica might have chicken noodle soup delivered to their house. If a healthcare provider was having car trouble, Jessica would find a way to help them get the repair completed or otherwise ensure they had rides to work or even the store.
Annual Car Giveaway for Employees
Every summer, Angels of Care gives a car to one of our eligible employees. Every year, our team is excited for this opportunity to win new wheels and enjoys the anticipation around finding out what type of vehicle it will be, as well as who the winner is. Here are some photos of winners and their new rides.
