To our valued Angels of Care Family,

One of our AOC team members and her family need our #love and prayers as they recently lost their husband and father. We were extremely saddened to learn that Julie Winborne’s, Director of Intensive Case Management, husband has passed away after being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Julie and her husband, Doug, have been married for 44 years! She now faces the unimaginable and is having to learn to navigate life without Doug, her lifelong love. Julie, shared the below with our team,

“2 1/2 months ago, Doug started having a pain in his side off and on. We went to the doctor 2/03/2025 and his doctor ordered a CT scan because we were concerned about an aortic aneurysm because the doctor felt a pulsing in his lower abdomen. Before we could get the CT, he had pain that was unbearable, so we went to the ER. He received pain medicine in the ER and a CT was completed that showed Lymphadenopathy near his kidneys, lungs, and stomach. He was sent home. We then went to his primary physician to discuss findings.  They first suspected lymphoma so a referral was completed for oncology and urology. His appointment was set for 3/5 with oncology. On 3/7 we found out that his cancer was Adenocarcinoma stomach cancer that had metastasized to his lymph nodes. He had a tumor in his stomach the size of an orange with no possibility of surgical removal. Chemotherapy was an option, or go home on hospice. He wanted to fight, so he stayed inpatient to receive a port and start chemo in the hospital. Unfortunately, Doug passed away just one week after his official cancer diagnosis. I am the sole provider at this time and will have difficulty with daily living expenses, funeral cost and medical bills. I was married to this man 44 years and together 45. His main worry was about me and what I will do with him being gone. I am a tough lady, but how do you prepare for this news. I am sad beyond words. How do you say goodbye to someone you have been with your whole life? We married when I was 15- he has been my lifelong love.”

If you feel inclined to do so, please support our fundraiser that will help with Doug’s medical bills and ensure they feel HALOS during this unexpected time of heartache. Get involved by purchasing a Fight Like an Angel t-shirt or donating directly to the Winborne family’s GoFundMe.
