“Dawn entered this nursing assignment with my grandson with an exemplary level of professionalism, free of judgment or preconceived notions regarding our family’s living circumstances or my occasionally abrasive and challenging demeanor. From the outset, she demonstrated remarkable engagement my medically complex grandson who is living with the rare genetic condition of Congenital Myotonic Dystrophy Type 1. It is worth noting that numerous caregivers previously assigned to his care struggled to establish meaningful interaction with him, making Dawn’s immediate rapport with him all the more noteworthy. She exhibits an extraordinary level of compassion and dedication that far surpasses the standard expectations of her role. Dawn has provided unwavering support to my grandson and our family during some of the most challenging and critical moments. Her calm demeanor and decisive actions were pivotal during a life-threatening event when he experienced full cardiac and respiratory arrest.
Her ability to remain composed under intense pressure, coupled with her rapid decision-making and collaborative approach, was instrumental in saving his life. Beyond this, her commitment extended further as she followed the ambulance to the hospital, ensuring the well-being of both my grandson and myself. She even took the initiative to arrange transportation for me when my grandson was airlifted to another hospital out of the region, exemplifying her dedication to holistic care. Dawn’s extensive professional expertise, combined with her personal commitment, has enabled her to offer innovative and effective solutions to the challenges associated with his care. Her interventions have resolved numerous stressful situations, earning her the trust and respect of our family. She has consistently served as a strong advocate for him, partner at my side, having my back, helping to collaborate seamlessly with medical professionals, respiratory therapists, durable medical equipment suppliers, and community resource providers to ensure his complex needs are met with precision and care. Dawn consistently exceeds her professional obligations. She frequently arrives ahead of her scheduled shifts and maintains open lines of communication to confirm any updates or changes to our schedule. The bond she has cultivated with my grandson is truly exceptional, reflecting a profound dedication to his well-being.
