What is a PPEC?
PPECs allow children to have fun with peers during the day, then return home to spend time with their families.
A Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care Center is an innovative option for children with medical complexity and medically fragile children. PPECs allow them to receive the quality medical care they require while engaging with their peers in the least restrictive setting possible. They are also an alternative to long-term hospital stays and can be an alternative or in addition to home healthcare.
The Benefits of PPEC
-
Quality of doctor prescribed care is on par with hospital and home-based nursing and support.
-
Medications and treatments are administered and monitored continuously, as they would be in any medical setting appropriate for their care.
-
Children are assessed daily to ensure health and track progress.
-
The ability to participate in developmentally appropriate activities.
-
Transportation to and from is available.
-
Resources to accommodate dietary needs.
-
Educational resources for parents/caregivers.
-
Kids get to socialize with their peers, making their environment more mentally, physically, and emotionally enjoyable.
-
Services are covered by Medicaid, so there’s no cost to families.
